CHAIRMAN CARROLL TOURS HISTORIC AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER WITH EL TORO VETERANS

I had the honor to meet and hear the stories of veterans and former air traffic control employees of the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. We toured the control tower, which has been decommissioned since 1999, and discussed how its preservation and renovation is an essential historical feature for the Great Park. The base served notably in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and in Operation Desert Storm. In this tower, our military officers conducted the safe takeoff and landing of military aircraft, including the largest aircraft in the U.S. military inventory. I believe that legacy should be honored by keeping the generations to come informed of our Irvine history. If you or someone you know served at the MCAS El Toro, click here to let my office know.
